SC charges two individuals for failing to comply with notice issued by investigating officer

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 19): The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today charged two individuals for failing to cooperate with the regulator in its investigation into breaches of securities laws.

Ong Kar Kian, 38, and Amirruddin Nin, 50, were charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court this morning under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA).

“The two failed to comply with notices issued by the SC investigating officer in 2017 and 2018 requiring them to attend before the said officer for their statements to be recorded,” the regulator said in a statement.

Ong, who was the group accountant of Asia Media Group Bhd, and Amirruddin, who was a named director of several private companies, were needed by the SC to assist in an on-going investigation under the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 and AMLATFPUAA.

Both of them were granted bail of RM50,000 each, and required to surrender their passports to the courts and report fortnightly to the SC.

Meanwhile, the SC is also calling upon members of the public to provide information on another two individuals sought by the commission to assist in its investigation into the same case.

The two individuals are Wong Shee Kai also known as Ricky, 39, and Rusli Jaafar, 44. Their last known business or employment addresses are Asia Media Group Bhd and CTB Solutions Sdn Bhd, both in Puchong, Selangor, respectively.
