Mohd Sukari appointed new JaPEN D-G

PUTRAJAYA (Dec 7): Datuk Mohd Sukari Ab Hamid (pictured) has been appointed the new Director-General of the Information Department (JaPEN) effective today.

JaPEN said Mohd Sukari, 59, replaces Roselindawati Abdul Rahman, who retired on Nov 17.

The Kedah-born began his career as an Information Officer at the JaPEN headquarters in 1987. In June 1989, he was appointed Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Energy, Telekom and Pos Malaysia.

Mohd Sukari was also entrusted with leading the Kedah JaPEN as the state’s Information director in 2003 and the Communications and Community Development Division director in 2009.

JaPEN, in a statement today, said Mohd Sukari’s credibility and extensive experience in the areas of strategic communication management, public relations and administrative management led to him being appointed secretary of the Strategic Communications Division at the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia in September 2012.

"His expertise and experience is an important asset to JaPEN," said JaPEN, adding he was appointed deputy director-general (Strategic Information) in October 2014; deputy director-general (Digital Content) in 2018; and deputy director-general (Strategic Communications) in 2019.

Mohd Sukari, who has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature from Universiti Sains Malaysia, also participated in a series of short-term professional courses in communication in Singapore in 1992, then in financial and budget management at the Pittsburgh University, Pennsylvania in 1995, as well as strategic management and leadership at home and abroad.

Apart from career excellence, Mohd Sukari is also involved in several professional associations including as a board member of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM), Malaysian Media Council and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).
