KUALA TERENGGANU (Jan 8): Two construction companies were each fined RM60,000 by the Sessions Court here today on four counts of building septic tanks and sewerage system which did not meet specifications set by the National Water Service Commission (SPAN).
Judge Jamaludin Mat meted out the fine against LLC Infra Sdn Bhd and Sinohydro Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd after their directors, Loh Choon Quan and He Feng respectively, pleaded guilty to all the charges.
Jamaludin fined both the companies RM15,000 on each count and also ordered them to make the necessary changes to the septic tanks and sewerage system, which were built at the Terengganu Power Station in Kuala Berang, to make them in compliance with the specifications set by SPAN.
The two companies are the main contractors appointed by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in the construction of the Hulu Terengganu Hydroelectric Project.
The offences, under the Water Services Industry Act 2006, were committed on Nov 25, 2015.
Senior prosecuting officers from SPAN Shariful Azman Mustapa Yahya and Mohd Helmy Razelan prosecuted, while the two comapnies were represented by lawyer Goh Meng Yew.
